The Story of Shanlyn
Shanlyn is more than a farm.
It is a love story.
A grief story.
A story of trust, resilience and the
unexpected ways life unfolds.
The name Shanlyn combines the names of
Shane and Lynne, reflecting a journey that
neither of us could have imagined when we
first set foot on this land.
Together, we dreamed of a different kind of life.
One closer to nature, with animals, open skies
and a little more space to breathe.
What we didn't have was a plan.
When we first walked this land, it was little more than paddocks.
There were no roads, no domes, no stables and no clear picture
of what it might one day become.
We simply knew we were meant to be here.

Not long before Shane passed, Shane shared a dream with me.
In it, I was living in the country, surrounded by horses and people. I had come in from working outside, tired but content. He wasn't entirely sure what the dream meant,
but something stayed with us.
Looking back now, it feels as though the land was already calling. We didn't know what Shanlyn would become.
We didn't even know its name.
We simply trusted each step as it appeared.
From that point on, we followed our hearts, trusted what appeared in front of us and kept taking the next step. Sometimes with certainty, often without it.
Shanlyn wasn't carefully mapped out.
It unfolded.
And perhaps it still is.
When we first walked this land, it was little more than paddocks. There were no roads, no domes, no stables and
no clear picture of what it might one day become.
We simply knew we were meant to be here.
Shane spent just thirteen nights in our home
before he passed away here, in palliative care,
in my arms.
The Shanlyn you see today did not exist then.
There were no domes, no donkeys, no labyrinth
and no clear vision of what would come next.
There was only grief, a piece of land we both loved,
Molly grazing quietly in the paddock,
and the task of learning how to keep putting
one foot in front of the other.

What followed wasn't a plan.
It was a journey of love, loss, trust and healing.
One step at a time, Shanlyn began to emerge.

The horses arrived.
Then the donkeys, cows, chickens and peacocks.
The domes welcomed guests.
Satya, the meditation deck and labyrinth, became places for stillness, reflection and connection.
Over time, I realised that Shanlyn was becoming more than accommodation.
Guests arrived seeking rest and time away, yet many left speaking about something difficult to describe.
A sense of calm.
A feeling of being able to breathe again.
A deeper connection to themselves, to nature and to what truly matters.

Alongside creating Shanlyn, I have continued my love of writing and storytelling.
I am the author of A Good Enough Mother and am currently writing my memoir,
The Empty Side of the Bed — a deeply personal reflection on
love, loss, grief, resilience and the unexpected ways healing finds us.
Like Shanlyn itself, both books are rooted in the belief that our stories matter,
and that sharing them can help others feel a little less alone.
Today, Shanlyn welcomes guests seeking rest, connection, reflection and renewal.

Whether you visit for a peaceful stay, time with the animals, a Healing Conversation, Reiki,
or simply a chance to step away from the noise of life, you are warmly welcomed here.
This place was built from love.
It was shaped by loss.
And it continues to grow through every person
who passes through its gates.
Welcome to Shanlyn.
